Dr. Maureen MacDonald Hons BSc. (Agr) Plant Science & Business
Dr. Maureen MacDonald received her undergraduate degree in plant science & business from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, an affiliate of Dalhousie University. While at the NSAC, Dr. MacDonald was involved in crop research for wild blueberries and various cereals. She had the opportunity to travel to Central and Eastern Europe to observe their agricultural practises and to participate in international research. Upon graduating from the NSAC, Dr. MacDonald received a prestigious scholarship from the Weed Science Society of America for her undergraduate thesis work, and was voted Grad Class Secretary for her positive contributions to her fellow classmates.
A career in medicine was always Dr. MacDonald’s intention, and after exploring her educational options within conventional medical and complementary medicine, the decision to enrol in the four year program offered by the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine was clear. Naturopath medicine offered Dr. MacDonald the opportunity to help patients improve their state of wellness through an individualized approach to primary health care delivery.
During Dr. MacDonald’s four years at the CCNM, she became quite eclectic in her practise drawing from the flexible treatment options that naturopathic medicine offers to patients. Dr. MacDonald found that increased appointment duration allowed for better understanding of patients’ experiences and health concerns. Her 4th year Case Report was recognized for its high quality of research related to the patient’s care and a treatment plan using evidence based medicine.
As a primary care physician, Dr. MacDonald addresses general family wellness, sports medicine, pain management, chronic disease, and is committed to providing individuals with the knowledge and support needed to encourage vitality. She has additional training in homeopathy, biotherapeutic drainage, auricular medicine, and as a birthing-doula. She will also be completing additional training and licensure to provide mesotherapies and intravenous therapies that the Millennium Health Centre has been the sole provider in the region since 2001. Dr. MacDonald is welcoming all patients into her general family practise at Millennium Health Centre in January 2010.
Dr. MacDonald practises “Constant And Never-Ending Improvement” within her personal life, enjoys outdoor activities, learning to cook and building fitness.
